A creator's quest to climb Mount Everest

French YouTuber Intoxag has released a documentary-length film called Kaizen, detailing the year he decided to climb Mount Everest.
Kaizen launched in French cinemas for two days in early September, clocking 320,000 ticket sales. But the real success has come from uploading the documentary to YouTube.
With over 33 million views, it paves the way for other extreme creators to follow suit and find fame through YouTube instead of traditional TV. For context, the Oscar-winning National Geographic documentary Free Solo (2019) reached around 3.1 million people.
The creator → “YouTube allowed me to realize my dreams.” Intoxag started out as a streamer, before taking his adventures outside with a series of daring challenge videos.
The documentary → Expect training montages to rival Rocky, dangerous weather, mental exhaustion and tears of joy when Intoxag and his team finally reach the summit.
How YouTube's updates will affect you
The announcement of YouTube’s newest features, including AI-generated backgrounds, could change how you make and upload content.
YouTube has said that these will start to trickle onto your dashboard in the coming weeks and months. But what exactly are they?
Even more AI → Generate clips and backgrounds for YouTube shorts and reach new audiences with auto translated audio for your videos.
New ways to connect → Build deeper relationships with your audience through the updated Communities hub. Like an old-school forum, subscribers can start conversations off the back of your content- and you can join in too!
Get hyped → Land on YouTube’s new leaderboard for emerging creators when your videos are ‘hyped’.
Shoot for the silver screen → Organize your videos into seasons and episodes to help your audience better navigate (and binge-watch) your content.
Elsewhere on the web
Dodge demonetization, with a YouTube feature that lets you edit parts of your video instead of taking it down completely.
“They stole my voice with AI.” Tech-tuber Jeff Geerling opens the conversation on non-consensual voice cloning.
Instagram launches teen accounts. Including, ‘built-in protections’ for parent peace of mind.
Get the Moo Deng look. Beauty influencers recreate the ‘glowy, moisturized’ skin of the viral baby hippo.
No more Skyrim, says 88-year-old streamer. Shirley Curry is ‘bored with it.’
